Leap Year Proposal Ideas

Now, a few things I feel important to mention are: if you love someone then leap year or no leap year ladies, you should feel empowered to propose. We’re living in the 21st Century, not the 17th. If you love someone, do what you feel is right. Chances are you know what you want in your relationship and are ready to take the next step.

1. Does he want to get married?

At some point before February 29th I would find out a few important pieces of information. Beginning with, how does he really feel about the idea of marriage. As with any engagement, you want to be sure that the person you love will say yes, and feel confident going into popping that question! Get him comfortable, perhaps over a home cooked meal, or laying in bed at night and gauge how he envisions your lives together. How do you do this? Just ask him simple (yet revealing questions such as:  Would you be nervous doing a grooms speech (followed by an anecdote of a nervous groom at a wedding your recently attended). Then you can ask him: Can you imagine yourself ever being married?

2. What do others think about an engagement?

Next, I would ask his parents, loved ones and friends what they think of the two of you getting engaged. I still think it’s important to ask family members for their thoughts and feelings on an engagement and it will also help you gauge whether he’s got something planned for you already!

3. Is he a ‘man’s man?’

Some men take the idea of proposing very seriously and as their ultimate show of masculinity. If he’s the ultimate man’s man then chances are he might feel lightly emasculated if you take the proposal away from him. Make sure he is secure with himself and your relationship together, to not take you proposing as an insult.

4. Don’t worry about what strangers think

Traditionally, men have proposed to women so get ready to have a handful of side-glancers questioning why you couldn’t just wait for him to do it. Here’s my advice: you don’t owe anyone an explanation for why you’re proposing. Anyone who really knows the two of you will respect the love you both have for each other and will congratulate you on taking this next step either way.

So you have ducks in a row, now what do you propose with? Even if your man does seem open to your proposing he may not feel comfortable wearing a ring until you two are formally married. Get him something that he can wear until you both have rings such as a watch. Men tend to show off watches like women show off rings and a watch keeps the proposal modern.

As with any proposal the moment before they answer is the most nerve racking moment you may ever experience. If the answer is “yes!” then congratulations! You’ve snagged your man. If the answer is “no” or he needs some time to deal with this shock then respect that, too. If you are truly meant to be together than everything will work out as it should.
