Now that I’m engaged, I keep replaying conversations I had with my fiancee in the months leading up to our proposal. They all lead to one thing – he was plotting a magical way to propose! Only thing was, I had no idea at the time. Hindsight really is twenty-twenty. Well, here it is ladies. My naiveté is your gain. Here’s how to tell if he’s about to pop that question and propose!
Check His Behaviour
During the months leading up to our proposal my fiancee became very “on edge” when the topic of marriage came up. He was always diving in deeper about what I was saying and asking me questions to truly uncover my feelings reguarding our future. In fact one time I remember saying to him, “ya know what, maybe it’s okay if we don’t get engaged for like, two more years” and his eyes completely widened. He said, “you can’t keep changing your mind about this, you said you were ready for a ring just yesterday.” Take it from me ladies, if he’s about to propose he’ll be totally tapped in when anything about your future arises, or when you subtley mention what kind of ring you’re into. Men have no chill.
The Future
Chances are if he’s planning something he will have asked some of your friends or family for their opinion on rings and proposal plans. Looking back, I realize that my fiancee was very concerned about my style and just exactly what I liked. This wasn’t just a quality he posessed but looking back all of my family and friends seemed very aware that something was coming! Look for signs of your loved ones asking you just what you like in a ring, or when you’d like to get married. Odds are they’re not just curious, they’re onto something!
Watch for Questions
Look for questions ranging from, “well, what do you think of her ring?” or “any chance you can get off work on this day?”, they might seem mundane or the total opposite, oddly specific! If he’s really about to propose he’s going to try to gauge with you what exactly would make you happy and he’s going to also need you to be there! Any questions about changing your schedule or having you be available at a certain time are totally suspicious, as well as any questions about ring styles and asking you to describe your perfect ring or what place or experience truly makes you the happiest.
Sentimental Look In His Eyes
He’s going to be total mush leading up to the proposal. I noticed that my fiancee was more interested in watching romantic movies then he ever was before and he also started saying very lovey dovey things, verging on dare I say, mushy! But the total give away was the way he was looking at me. Looking back, he started looking at me in a way that I can only describe as, “I can’t bare to ever lose you” and well, soon after that, I was engaged.
